Why use a CNC Press Brake for your Precision Sheet Metal Fabrication?

A Press Brake is used for secondary forming of a punched or laser cut sheet metal blank. An advantage of the Press Brake is the enormous range of work piece size. Bed lengths of a Press Brake range from four to fourteen feet, and they can bend metal with a force of between 20 and 250 tons! Most of the tools used in a Press Brake are standard, and almost any part size and formed shape can be created with standard tools. Specially shaped tools can also be purchased, if needed, for a modest cost. The Press Brake is great for small and medium run metal fabrication and prototypes! precision sheet metal fabrications

How Does the Press Brake Perform Precision Metal Fabrication?

Most of Dayton Rogers' Press Brakes are Computer Numerically Controlled (CNC) and hydraulically powered, although some of the newer models are now a hybrid electric/hydraulic. Our CNC Press Brakes are programmed with automatic backgauging that goes in and out and up and down and provides depth stops for speed and accurate repeatability. Press Brakes have multiple stock and purchased tools to handle many bends with a single setup. You can have many tool stations set up across the bed of a single Press Brake, which saves even more time. This makes the metal forming process more competitive for longer runs. Press brakes are also used to make ribs in parts for added strength, without having to increase the gage of the material.

Is a Press Brake Always the Best Metal Forming Solution?

CNC Press Brake

Press Brakes can offer almost any degree of precision, however the tolerances achieved are only as good as the cutting or forming process used to make the blanks before it. Parts should be designed for critical functionality and you should consider production volumes to select the most economical metal fabrication process.
