Modular Tooling

Modular Tooling is a form of “hard” tooling. Where a single tool, or a set of tools, is designed to blank, pierce, form, or draw sheet metal in order to manufacture a specific part. This process is unlike CNC sheet metal fabrication, where the same “soft” tools are used to manufacture several different parts. Modular Tooling has an advantage by being capable of producing very complicated shapes with great precision and repeatability.

Dayton Rogers specializes in Modular Tooling, which is similar to the short-run metal stamping process. However, unlike most short-run stamping tools, the Modular Tooling built at Dayton Rogers is built to handle quantities into the 100,000’s. Modular Tooling is built with the quality and durability of most progressive tooling, but at a considerably reduced price. Modular Tooling is ideal for volumes larger than most fabrication runs, but lower than quantities that you would justify investing in progressive tooling. Depending on the project, you could justify Modular Tooling for quantities as low as 500-1,000 pieces.

Our cost efficient Modular Tooling is built in-house at each Dayton Rogers facility. Our experienced Tooling Departments each own Wire EDM’s, CNC Machining Centers, Mills, Drills, and Laths, utilized to meet your most challenging demands. Since we build this tooling ourselves, it can sometimes be built in as little as one day from your CAD file or print! Modular Tooling is designed to fit in several of our punch presses ranging in size from 3 – 300 tons. Dayton Rogers guarantees that your custom Modular Tooling will always be in top working order. In the event that something should happen to it, we will repair or replace the tooling for the life of your product.
